With school kicking off, now is the time to start thinking about what to pack for lunches as well as what to have on hand when the kiddos come home. I’m not sure what it is, but my kids have always acted like they were starved to death by the time they arrive home from school.
Just like with adults, when they are hungry they always want to grab a quick and easy snack, but who says that has to be junk food? Here are a few snack options that we keep on hand for when they kids need to refuel after school or before sports practice.
1. Slammers Organic Snack Pouches: These little pouches by Kids Gourmet are amazing. I first discovered these on a recent camping trip with the boys and we have been hooked since. They are available in seven amazing flavors that are a quick way to fuel the boys, especially since some have at least 6 grams of protein per pouch. My youngest loves the protein packed pouches, while my oldest loves all the others. You can read more on Slammers HERE.
2. Apples w/ Peanut Butter: This is a classic that you just can’t go wrong with. I pre-measure the peanut butter and put them in little plastic containers and prep a few apples in advance. When prepping the apples in advance, toss them in either lemon juice or fruit fresh and put them in snack bags. They keep beautifully for a day or so and the kids love being able to go grab them for a quick snack.
3. Hummus w/ Crackers: I always prep foods on Sunday afternoon and hummus is one that’s included. While I prefer making my own hummus, there are amazing varieties available in the stores. Whether making it yourself, or purchasing it pre-made, I always like to measure out the serving sizes into tiny plastic containers and put them in a baggie with some of our crusty bread. It makes for a quick grab-and-go snack for the boys.
4. Veggies w/ dip: Who doesn’t love dipping veggies in salad dressing? My boys love doing this and it makes for a quick and easy snack. Once again, ranch (or dressing of your choice) in the tiny cups and placed into a baggie with they favorite pre-sliced veggies. It makes a quick and easy snack.
5. Goat Cheese w/ Crackers: My kiddos love goat cheese with crackers. One of their favorite flavors of goat cheese actually comes from a farmer that is local to us, but as for the crackers, they love the Crunchmaster crackers. A couple of their favorites are the original multi-seed or the multi-grain. Not only do they taste great, but they are gluten-free and don’t contain preservatives or artificial flavors.
