It’s hard to believe that this year kicks off five years that we’ve been homeschooling and I’m getting ready to share with your our 5th grade curriculum choices for the 2017-2018 school year. With us homeschooling year-round, we’ve already been working through some of our 5th grade curriculum and so far we’ve been really pleased with our selections.

So let’s get started:

Math
For math this year, we’ve opted to do Math Lessons for a Living Education Level 5. This curriculum features a Charlotte Mason flavored blend of stories, copy work, oral narration, and hands-on experience to bring concepts to life and invite the student to explore the world around them through math. We have been using this curriculum for about a month and a half now and are loving it. He’s went from dreading math daily, to actually doing math first thing.

History, Language Arts, & Literature
This year we’ll be using Notgrass: America the Beautiful. We have been working through this for about a month so far and I really love that it I can combine three subjects into one.

Spelling:
For spelling this year we’re going to be using Christian Liberty Press Spelling. After reading many reviews, I chose to go with the level 4 for my 5th grader, and I’m glad I did.

Grammar:
This year we’re going to be using two different curriculum when it comes to grammar. We switched to Well-Trained Mind Level 4 mid-year, so first we’re going to be wrapping up this curriculum.

Once we’ve completed the Well-trained mind, we’re going to be using Schoolhouse Teachers Grammar.

Science:
For the first semester, we’re going to be using Memoria Press Trees. We’ve been working through this book for awhile now and have just reached the point where we’re going to start observing trees.

For our second semester, we’ll be going into Memoria Press: What’s that Bird.

Geography:
For our Geography, we’re going to be using Memoria Press: 50 States. I’ll be using this with both my 5th grader and 2nd grader.

Bible:
For the Bible study this year, I’m going to be pulling out our Sonlight curriculum and following the recommended reading schedule as well as using The Awesome Book of Bible Facts to go along with it.

  1. Looks like a great year! I don’t know why I didn’t realize you could purchase separate “units” like that from Memoria Press, lol.
