Banana Split Trifle Recipe

My four and eight year olds love helping me in the kitchen and I welcome their help.  I think it’s great that they want to learn how to do things in the kitchen.

With Father’s Day around the corner they want to prepare a dessert for everyone to enjoy.  We decided to make a Banana Split Trifle and while I made baked the pound cake, he did everything else himself.  Next time he has requested to do the pound cake as well.  It turned out fantastic!  The nice thing about a trifle is that you have room to play.. I let him add  extra pound cake and extra fruit in the layers. He was so proud of his creation.

Ingredients
  1. 1 package instant Banana Creme Pudding (5.1 oz size)
  2. Kraft Seasonal Vanilla Cool Whip Topping (or you can make your own)
  3. (1) Pound cake or (1) box of vanilla wafers
  4. 4 cups chopped pineapple
  5. 4 large bananas sliced
  6. 1 pint strawberries, sliced
  7. 2 cups blueberries
  8. juice of (1) lemon
  9. chocolate syrup
  10. chopped nuts (your choice, I used walnuts)
  11. maraschino cherries
Instructions
  1. Prepare pudding as directed on package and let it sit in the fridge to chill and firm while you prepare the fruit. I sliced the bananas first and tossed them in the lemon juice. I let them rest in the lemon juice while I cut up the strawberries and pineapple. Also, you can used canned pineapples if you choose. Just drain them.
  2. In a trifle bowl, arrange your pound cake along the bottom. I added it until I felt it looked good. For this entire trifle I used 3/4 of a pound cake that I baked in a bundt pan. Top that with abbout 2 cups of pineapple (give or take), half of your sliced bananas, half the strawberries, 1 cup of blueberries, and half the pudding. Repeat these steps again, beginning with wafers and ending with pudding.
  3. Spoon your whipped topping on top of the pudding and gentle spread it around. We garnished the top with leftover pineapple, maraschino cherries, chopped walnuts and drizzled our chocolate syrup over it. You can add other fruits to your liking.
Notes
  1. Whipped topping (if you choose to make your own)
  2. 1 cup heavy cream
  3. 1 Tbs Powdered sugar
  4. 1 tsp. vanilla extract or coconut extract
  5. Beat cream just until stiff peaks are about to form. Then, beat in your powdered sugar and extract of choice until stiff peaks do form. make sure not to over beat.
