It’s hard to believe that it’s already the end of February.  It seems like just yesterday we were ringing in the New Year.  With the start of the New Year many of us set goals and resolutions to achieve by the end of the year.  However, by the end of February many have already given up on or forgotten the goals they had set.    I for one never really do resolutions, but instead set short term goals that I know can be reached in a reasonable amount of time.  Once one goal is reached, then I move on to the next one.  Over the years I have found this keeps me determined and I don’t get frustrated or feel I have failed when life happens.

My goal this year is to continue living a healthy lifestyle for not only myself but for my family.  I want to be the best mom and wife possible and if I am living an unhealthy lifestyle then I personally find it hard to do.  I have been on this journey for a couple of years now and have no desire to go back to my old ways.  Having energy to play with my kids is one of my many motivations.  Knowing that I am teaching them to live healthy and make healthy choices is an amazing feeling.  My boys workout with me every day and I love that.  They are also the very first ones to point out when I take a rest day (which is needed at least once a week).  They want to eat healthy, and they want to be healthy and that makes this Mom proud.Blog Forward 2014 Challenge

Over the past six months we have had to go gluten-free in our household.  While we still haven’t perfected it completely it’s something that we strive for and is a goal that I have set for this year.  My boys never complain about the foods but I am bad to let them have little cheat meals or treats which really isn’t good.  Gluten is gluten no matter how much or how little.  My goal is to continue to be more consistent with this.  My six year old loves his sandwiches so for him I always keep gluten-free bread or I make paleo bread for him.  My three year old could care less about most processed products so he makes it a little easier.  Kids really do go on what we teach them.  My three year old has always been exposed to a healthier lifestyle, while my six year old hasn’t.  It’s taken some time with him but I am amazed at how much he has loved eating foods that I prepare and that are not processed.  It’s really a trial and error with kids and we are getting there.

This year I have teamed up with ZonePerfect for their Blog Forward Challenge and I look forward to sharing the journey with all my readers.  When it comes to keeping snacks for the go, our family turns to ZonePerfect a lot and we have always been satisfied!!   Here are some awesome times that I want to share with you and I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I have.

A couple of my goals for this year are to:

  1. Workout at least 5 days a week
  2. Continue to teach my family about healthy eating
  3. Offering healthier snacks for at home and on the go
Also, with this challenge I am writing a letter to myself.  This is an awesome idea and something I can look back on throughout the year.  Here is the letter that I have written to myself.

Dear Samantha,
You know what you have to do this year.  You know that your goal is continue on the path of a healthy lifestyle.  You don’t think twice about busting your butt working out every day but with the food choices you really struggle.  This is going to be the year to get all that in line.  You know the saying “you can’t outwork a bad diet” and you know it’s true!

Work on staying consistent and don’t let temptation get in your way.  Meal prep is the way to go and always keep healthier options such as ZonePerfect on hand for those occasions when you just need a little something extra.

Love,
Me 🙂

I am wishing all of my readers the very best year possible!!
