5 Fun Car Trip Games For Kids

Road trips with kids. We’ve all been there and we’ve all probably heard the words, “Are we there yet?” and “I’m bored”.5 Fun Car Trip Games for Kids...(and adults)

After many years (24 to be exact) of traveling with kids, I’ve learned that less is actually more. While I now realize that I don’t have to bring their entire toy box for entertainment, I’m also not going to tell you to leave the electronics behind (I’m not that crazy…yet). What I am going to say is why not take this time to be silly and play games with the kids. The entire family can join in, have a blast and create memories. All the screen time in the world can’t beat that.

Here are a few of our favorite games that we enjoy playing while on the road.

One Word Story
Oh my…this is one game that can go forever when we’re on a car trip. The kids have so much fun with this. How to play? We just go around the car and each person adds one word to continue the story. It can get pretty crazy at times.

Rock, Paper, Scissors
This is a big one with my boys. I mean, how can you go wrong with rock, paper, scissors?

Name that Tune
This is a game that seems to always be played in the car when we’re on a road trip, or simply running errands around town. One option is: Each person can choose to hum or whistle a tune and everyone else tries to guess that tune. Depending on how long the road trip is, you may start running out of song ideas. No worries, just turn on the radio and see who can guess the correct name of the song being played, or the artist who sings it.

Twenty Questions
One person thinks of an object and the other players then take turns asking yes or no questions. After the players have asked 20 questions, they get a chance to guess the object.

I Spy
You may be thinking this could be a hard one and it can be at times when they decide to pick something that was outside of the car, but it always ends in laughs.
