I hate to say it, but the holidays are almost here. Here is a look at the Leapfrog Ultra, Platinum and Epic together. We have been Leapfrog fans for many, many years and this company has yet to disappoint. From DVD’s, infant/toddler toys to their handheld devices, we have tried and used them all in our home.
Hands down, my personal preference is the Epic, but my boys can’t pick a favorite. They all have their pros and cons and basically it comes down to what your budget is when investing in this type of device. Overall, my boys are just as happy with their Ultra as they are the Epic.
The Epic doesn’t take the cartridges we are all familiar with, which can be a con. However, we did start purchasing the online apps when my boys both received the Ultra. So we are able to pull down the games we have purchased in the past. We did splurge and get 3 new apps last weekend for the epic which was around $20 total for all 3. They were games they have played and love on their Kindles. One of the apps, came with three different games and it was around $7-$10. Basically what I pay a month for the Kindle Unlimited, but with this they actually own the game.

My daughter recieved both the epic and platinum for her 2nd birthday. She opened the epic first and hasn’t immediately taken to the controls and I have failed to fully explore it without her present to set up videos and learn it myself. Then came the platinum, which we haven’t opened because one is probably going to be exchanged, but which? At first glance platinum appears more tot friendly. Opinion?

Honestly they are both great. If you are looking at her using it for a few years, I would stick with the epic. Simply because it does run on the android operating system and you can download any of the amazon app store games, like the kids youtube, Netflix, etc. Plus it has expandable memory.
Does anyone know if you can use leapfrog apps on a kindle fire? We own quite a few now and I don’t want to get my daughter a tablet she can’t use them on.

Unless something has changed, I wasn’t able to pull in what I already owned as far as Kindle apps onto the Leapfrog even though you can purchase and install the kindle apps on it. You might could call the company to see if something has changed.
