Not Your Mama’s Brownies
Ooey gooey brownies without the guilt
Makes 12 large brownies
1 1/4 cup (125 g) Cara’s Flour Blend
1/4 cup (24 g) black been flour (if you cannot find this flour, simply replace with more flour blend)
1 1/4 cup (250 g) sugar
1/4 c (25 g) cocoa powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup (57 g) + 2 tbsp (28 g) applesauce
1/4 cup (60 ml) melted dark chocolate, cooled
1/4 cup (60 ml) vegetable oil
1/4 cup (60 ml) boiling water
Optional Add-ins:
1/2 cup (57 g) walnuts
1/2 cup (90 g) vegan chocolate chips
Preheat your oven to 350 F/176 C. Grease an 8″x8″ brownie pan. Whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder and salt together in a large mixing bowl.
Pour applesauce, oil, and melted chocolate into the dry ingredients and stir with a wodden spoon until almost combined. The batter will be a bit difficult to fully mix together–you want this. Slowly add the boiling water until the batter becomes more manageable. You want it to be thick enough to be able to still stir but not thin enough where it’s runny.
Place in pan and bake for 35-40 minutes.
Baking delicious, one-of-a-kind desserts is one thing, but baking healthy, gluten-free AND vegan, now that’s something everybody can enjoy. Whether you’re gluten-free, vegan or just looking to bake something a little more nutritious, this book has it all.
