For the upcoming school year, I decided to try something a little different when it comes to grammar. I wanted a program that I could not only use with both my boys, but one that would offer a hands-on approach. Through all my searching, I just wasn’t finding exactly what I was looking for. That was until our family was given the opportunity to review English Grammar Teaching Method from English on a Roll.
English On A Roll
Until we were given the opportunity to review this product, I had never heard of English on a Roll. However, as I mentioned above, we have been very impressed with this program thus far. With most formal teaching methods focusing on just auditory and visual styles or maybe even a combination of both, English Grammar Teaching Method helps students learn by hitting all the learning styles: auditory, visual, and tactile. The Multisensory Structured Language Method (MSL), has shown to be a highly effective technique and I for one have seen this first hand in our homeschool.
Who is this for?
This program is recommended for children ages 5 and up, and even for students who are English as a Second Language (ESL), Special Education, and Beginning Readers. The cubes can be used for one-on-one teaching, small groups and even classrooms. While utilizing the cubes your students can learn spelling and site reading and more. For the advanced students, they can use it as a springboard writing exercise by using the cubes to create a sentence and then write a more detailed paragraph about the sentence they created. 
What we received for our review
For our review, we received the teacher manual and one set of cubes. One set of cubes can be used with up to 6 students.
The cubes come in a handy storage case that makes it easy to keep everything together. Once you open the case, you’ll find that the cubes have words etched in different colors that represent the parts of speech. For example, the verbs are red, pronouns are blue, adjectives are purple, etc. 
The instruction manual is a total of 150 pages in length and includes 37 detailed, easy to follow lesson plants and teaching guides. You’ll also find inside the instruction manual tips for teacher modeling, learning games, conversation ideas, and classroom activities. 
If all that I’ve mentioned isn’t enough, you will also find reproducible worksheets for classroom use which I love! Having this options gives me the opportunity to use this program with both of my boys.
How we use the program and our overall thoughts:
I use this program in our homeschool twice a week with my 2nd grader and 5th grader. At the start of each lesson, I usually give the boys each a worksheet. After they each have their worksheets and their cubes, we start going over what we’ll talk about for the day.
I love how the instruction booklet is laid out so that it includes notes on repetition, vocabulary and even dialogue to go along with it. I will write our examples as we go on the white board, and the boys follow along on their paper. Once I feel confident that they understand the lesson for the day, we then go to their worksheet. The worksheets aren’t long at all and completely reinforce the concepts that we just went over. While each of the boys do receive their own worksheet, most days I’ll see them working as a team which I love!
