We love Chimney Rock State Park and can’t wait to visit for the Fall Homeschool Day at Chimney Rock State Park that takes place on Wednesday, October 12, 2016.
It’s that time of year again for the Chimney Rock Fall Homeschool Day. Homeschoolers of all ages are welcome to attend. You can bring a picnic lunch for the park, or eat at one of the restaurants in Chimney Rock Village. Students will enjoy hands-on educational programs that grow their appreciation for nature.
Fall 2016 Programs include:
Chimney Rock: Now and Then
Join a Chimney Rock State Park Ranger to travel back in time. The perfect way to celebrate 100 years of NC State Park’s is to hear the incredible history of a Park that’s be here even longer! You’ll enjoy seeing old photos and hearing tales of how Chimney Rock State Park came to be the 6,000 plus-acre park it is today.
Sensational Spiders
Lots of folks think spiders are for smushing, but our Naturalists are going to change their minds! Your students will learn all about these eight-legged creatures and why they’re so important to us. We’ll make sure they never look at a spider the same again.
Magical Migration
This fun and interactive program introduces the process of migration and what makes it so magical. Everyone will love learning how species in their own backyard make an incredible journey in order to survive. At the end of the class students will participate in a game will really bring the lesson home!
Wildlife Detectives
Nature leaves us so many clues, but sometimes they are easily overlooked. The best way to discover which wildlife live here is to look for the signs they leave behind. We’ll put on our observation hats and see what we can find in this exciting hunt for facts.
Afternoon Options
Want to come back after lunch? Join us for a guided hike up the Outcroppings Trail to the Chimney or out to Hickory Nut Falls. Hikes will begin at 1:30pm.
