Throughout history-and even today-head honchos usually don’t like change. Rocking the boat does not make them happy-not one bit. They may even want your head for going against the grain. But that threat didn’t stop the characters spotlighted in Fantastic Fugitives:Criminals,Cutthroats, and Rebels Who Changed History (While on the Run!) from changing history and making their mark on the world. They founded countries, won war, and even ended empires-all while on the run!
This is such a fascinating and fun read. Last year in our homeschool we covered Spartacus, Cleopatra, Martin Luther, Koxinga and Mary, Queen of Scots. With the arrival of Fantastic Fugitives, we have been revisiting these in our spare time to learn even more. The humor and sarcasm that the author adds to the stories makes it more interesting and hard to put down. I could easily knock this book out in a couple of days, but with reading it along with my third grader we take our time. I don’t want to overwhelm him with too much information and him get it all jumbled together.
History’s “Most Wanted” covered in this book include:
- Spartacus
- Martin Luther
- Harriet Tubman
- John Dillinger
- Emmeline Pankhurt
- Nelson Mandela
- And six more!
This exciting second book in The Changed History series introduces readers to these historical figures’ fast-paced stories and shows how anyone can change the world. Even you!

Funny and fascinating, Fantastic Fugitives will appeal to fans of the How They Croaked and How They Choked books. Emphasis on both male and female historical figures make this book stand out as a unique title in nonfiction for middle grade readers, and both boys and girls will love learning about these strange and unique historical figures.
