As the days start heating up we have been experimenting on things for the boys to do either outside in the shade or indoors. Early in the mornings they hit the sandbox, ride their bicycles and just run around in the yard. By around 11am the heat really hits and that’s when it’s time to start getting creative and finding fun and easy activities for them to do.
We decided to make our own finger paint for the first time today. It’s a fun product that my six year old was able to help with. He is big enough to pour the stuff into the pot and they both supervised me while the paint was thickening.
The recipe we used was:
Finger Paint:
3 Tablespoons Sugar
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1/2 cup corn starch
2 cups water
Combine ingredients in small saucepan. Warm until mixture thickens. Cool & Pour in containers. Add food coloring to create desired colors.
The fun lasted for a couple of hours and they had a lot of fun with their creations. We painted rocks, portraits and so much more.
While this paint does hold up really well indoors. My boys left it out under the canopy while they played. It was in the shade, but it was an very hot day. the paint did thicken just a tad, but all I had to do was add a few drops of water and it was good to go again.
It easily washes off their hands, and is a fun activity to do time and time again. They have a blast with creating fun colors to paint with.
