Isn’t there basically an app for everything these days? While most of them are for having fun, there are also some really awesome ones out there that are designed to help us in different areas.
What if I told you that we recently heard of a FREE app called Homeselfe (pronounced “home selfie”) that is designed to help us cut the costs of our energy bills? I mean, who doesn’t want to cut down on energy costs? Not only is this app free but it’s very simple to use and offers some very helpful suggestions. 
Homeselfe has worked in partnership with local, state and the nation’s largest public utilities to develop a tool that is easy to use, free and gets results for your home-and your wallet. Basically once you download Homeselfe, you start creating a digital mock of your home with a simple questionnaire that you can answer at your own pace. I started filling mine out but was unsure of how to answer some of the questions and decided to close it until my husband and I could sit down together. The app opened up exactly where I left off which was pretty cool. I also had the option to go back and change any of the answers if I needed to. 
It took around 5 minutes or less to finish the questions once my husband was there to help answer them. Once you have completed your questions, Homeselfe runs a report to show you what areas you may need to work on. Our lighting and things like that were all fine. We had just recently switched all of that over, but we were lacking in our sliding door and windows. I completely agree with that since I know we loose more heat than we should in that area. You can continue to scroll down on the above screen and it breaks down every area showing you how to have additional savings. The report is very easy to read and breaks down the areas that may need to be improved and what upgrades should take priority. Our attic insulation and doors were our on the top of our list. 
Not only does it break all this down for you, but it also helps you take action by connecting you with qualified local contractors if you need that. If you click on one of the options, it gives you a number that you can call. 
Homeselfe also provides information on special offers and rebates provided by your local government which can in turn quickly earn you money back on your upgrades. So basically it’s a win-win.
