This weekend our family headed out to the Get in Gear Festival in Asheville, NC. While a lot of us choose to buy local, at times we forget that it isn’t just groceries. This event highlighted local brewers and outdoor gear builders. It was a day filled with demos, gear clinics, raffles, and races.
While there were tons of fabulous gear there, we had a few that stood out to us and either purchased or placed on our “to get soon” list.
This company was awesome. Extremely helpful is giving suggestions that would fit our needs as a family. The kayak that caught our attention was the Deuce Coupe. This versatile sit-on-top is very family friendly with three seats and plenty of space for additional gear. It’s priced at around $899.
The boys loved having the opportunity to set in a few of the boats to try out. They also ran demos yesterday on the water.
First off I have to say that these people are amazing. I think we spent the most time at this particular vendor. With us planing on taking our four year old out backpacking this year for his first time, it’s time for us to add another tent to our family. This tent is on my wish list and is perfect for me and our four year old to sleep in and if need be, it wouldn’t be a problem to get me and both our boys in it since they are only 7 and 4.
The boys had to check out everyone of these tents and they agree with me..that the duo is the way for us to go. Our seven year old begged for us to get it yesterday.
The Duo Tent offers
- roomiest 3 season, fully enclosed 2 person tents on the market
- 2 large closeable ridge vents
- Utilizes just 2 trekking poles (not included) and an ultralight plastic ridge pole (provided) for support
- Weight: 2 lb 3 oz.- includes ridge pole and stuff sack
- Fabric- 3500 mm hydrostatic head waterproof fabric, 1.1 oz silicone impregnated ripstop nylon (silnylon)
Simple Shot Shooting Sports was one of the main places that our boys were itching to go. They were able to test out the Slingshots and just have fun. They offer a wide variety (made in the USA) slingshots at different price points.
We ended up taking bringing home the Scout Slingshot for the boys and they have already been our practicing. The Scout Gen. 2 offers a shooting platform made from virtually indestructible polycarbonate. The thumb and forefinger areas are now textured, to provide an even more secure grip when using the most powerful slingeshot bands.
A few more companies we love:
Not only does ENO bring us these amazing hammocks, but they are also a company that gives back to the community!!
A few more random shots from yesterday
- LiquidLogic
- Climbing through the challenge at the Swaygo tent
- Not sure where he is paddling off to in the Bellyak
They also had a Subaru Pulling Contest and my seven year old stepped up the challenge without blinking an eye.
Last and definitely not least was the tasty lunch we had. This was one of the best burgers ever!! We got it from the Oskar Blues food truck. Me and my husband got the CHUBurger and the littles opted for a grilled cheese. The grilled cheese was a good option for them because I don’t think they would of been able to eat such a HUGE burger.
- That was a lot of fries!
