Hattie Peck is a hilarious story featuring an inimitable chicken, Hattie Peck, and a set of vibrant illustrations about her adventures.hattie peck

A picture book for children three to six years old, Hattie Peck takes readers along a spirited ride in which they are encouraged to be persistent and creative in making their dreams come true and learning how to love.  At heart, it’s a simple and sweet adoption story about unconditional love that teaches adopted children and their families that theirs are just as amazing and full-of-love as “traditional” families.  Funny and endearing, it’s written to be read aloud, over and over again!

Poor Hattie Peck simply loves eggs, but she has only ever laid one – and it never hatched.  Eggs are all she thinks about, all she dreams about.  No egg is too big, no egg is too small.  So if she can’t lay another egg, she’s going to have to go out into the world to find one.

Hattie embarks on a journey in search of all the abandoned eggs. She dives to the deepest of vast oceans. She soars over gigantic cities. She climbs mountains towering above the clouds.  Through gloomy dark caves, deep below the ground, Hattie searches.  And she doesn’t just find one egg.  There are plenty of abandoned eggs, just waiting for her to find them!

What types of eggs did Hattie gather? You’ll have to read the book to find out!

Our Thoughts:

This was such a sweet story and I can easily see how someone might use this to show that love is unconditional.  Hattie gathered eggs from all over and she loved each one of them, even after they hatched.  My five-year old was completely taken by this book.  We raise chickens so he thought Hattie’s adventures were so funny. How many times have you seen a chicken diving into the ocean?  The illustrations are fun and vibrant and really brought this sweet story to life.
