We have been reading The Haunted Library series in our house and have been really enjoying it as a read aloud. My five-year-old is loving this series. Sometimes we read one chapter daily, and others he asks for us to keep going. This series is seriously that fun and is perfect for kids ages 6-8.
The most recent book in the series in The Ghost At The Fire Station it’s just as fun as the very first book in the series, The Haunted Library.
This series starts off is Kaz is a ghost boy that lived in an old schoolhouse. One day, his haunt got torn down and Kaz and his family were sent flying in all directions. After the wind blowing him in all directions for some time, he eventually flew into a Library. That’s when he met his first “solid” friend Claire.
Kaz wasn’t so sure of Claire at first, since ghosts weren’t supposed to talk to solids, but eventually became great friends and form a detective agency.

The Haunted Library Series is a fantastic series for beginner readers. The story-line is very easy for children to understand and the pictures placed throughout the chapters make it a very enjoyable read. As I mentioned, I use these as read alouds for my kindergartner and some days we’ll read one chapter, and other days he wants to continue on and do additional chapters. My eight-year old enjoys this series as much as his little brother, but he reads them himself. He doesn’t want to wait around for us, he likes to find out what’s going to happen next.
There would be no way we could pick a favorite book out of this series. We look forward to reading these daily and are super excited about the upcoming release of The Haunted Library: The Hide and Seek Ghost. This book is set to release in August.
