How we use this type of planner:
Since we homeschool year round, I set down and look over the “at-a-glance” calendar. This is when I start highlighting our days off, already planned field trips and things of that nature. Once I’ve highlighted our days/weeks off, I then venture into the general calendar area. This is where the real planning begins, and I have learned from past experience to pencil it in. Life happens and plans change, and a pencil is much more forgiving.
Another important part of this planner for me is the Curriculum Planning Sheets. With homeschooling two, it’s easy for past curriculum to get shuffled in the homeschool piles and forgotten. I like having the ability to pull my lists to see what we used in past years. This way I can reevaluate if it would work for my upcoming student, or if it’s something that wasn’t right for us. This is also a great way to plan your budget. Once again, I always start out with penciling it in for the year. I use it as my wish list per say. Once curriculum arrives, I go back with a pen and make it permanent.
In North Carolina, we are required to keep track of our school attendance. With that being said, I really like that the attendance sheets are included in this planner. Since the planner is going to be with us at the start of every day, it’s easy just to flip back to attendance and check it off.
Overall Thoughts:
I have been very impressed with everything this planner brings to the table, and I would purchase it. It offers almost everything I need when it comes to organizing the school year. While it’s absolutely perfect the way it is, there is one thing I would change. Since we are a year round homeschooling family, it would be nice to have more than 36 weeks in the blank/unlabeled calendar part.
