This month we have had so much fun bringing you all the books in the Ordinary People Change the World series. These books have been amazing and I’m a little sad to see that this series highlight has come to an end. This week, our last highlight is, I Am Jackie Robinson. This book has been just as amazing as the others in the series.
About the book:
Jackie Robinson always loved sports, especially baseball. He could run, leap and throw better than any other kids around. But he lived at a time when the rules weren’t fair to African Americans: Even though Jackie was a great athlete, he wasn’t allowed on the best teams just because of the color of his skin.
Jackie knew that sports were best when everyone, of every color, played together. He became the first black baseball player on a major-league team, and his bravery helped lead the way to equality in all sports in America.
As part of our study, we decided to head outdoors and play a little baseball, as well as making a picture of Jackie Robinson using construction paper.. The boys had fun making these.
