I was first introduced to the series “Ordinary People Change the World” last year and quickly fell in love. These books are perfect for my six-year old when it comes to learning about well…ordinary people that can do amazing things! Not only does my six-year old enjoy these books, but my nine-year old is always ready to join in on the read as well.

For the homeschooler, these books are perfect for tuning into mini-unit studies, and I have included links below on the past books and how we used them for unit studies. The most recent release in the series is, I Am Jim Henson. This book is just as wonderful as the others in the collection! My boys always love how the characters look like mini-adults in the book.

In this book we learn all about Jim Henson, starting at his childhood all the way through his career. You’ll learn how movies influenced his story telling and how he would often act out scenes with his friends. He had a wonderful imagination and with that he brought us many amazing creations, with the most memorable being Sesame Street.

Through his Muppets, Jim showed the world that there’s nothing more beautiful than imagination, especially when it’s accompanied by laughter and kindness.

Activity to go with the book:

As I mentioned, we love doing activities or mini-unit studies to go along with these books.  While I haven’t created a unit study yet for Jim Henson, we did decide to try our hand at making a Marionette. I stumbled across the directions on Pinterest and were pleasantly surprised at how well it turned out!  The hardest part about it has been learning how to make him walk properly.

Here’s a video that shows what we used and then the finished product.

Check out our thoughts the other I Am books in the series, as well as activities to go along with them!
