Kinderfeets Handmade Wooden Push Balance Bike

For those of you who have more than one child, how often do you see the youngest one interested in or trying to do the same things as the bigger child?  It seems that ever since Caroline has been able to walk and talk she is constantly imitating Jaydon and wanting to do the things he does.  More notably she is fascinated with him riding his bicycle and dirt bike.  She often gets on her tricycle and makes what she considers motorcycle sounds.  She even has her very own pink riding helmet for when she gets much bigger. Therefore, it is no surprise that when I found Kinderfeets I had to learn more!

Kinderfeets was founded by a Dutch designer living in California who couldn’t find exactly what he was looking for on the current market.  The Kinderfeets is essentially a balance bike, also known as a running bike or training bike.  The idea of learning to balance a two-wheeler is ideal for those who will eventually transition into a conventional bicycle.  Learning to balance a bike early on will help eliminate the need for training wheels.

Kinderfeets are handmade, wooden and come in either a natural finish or a chalkboard finish in six different colors.  What sets Kinderfeets apart from other balance bikes on the market is the footpegs that are used during cruising, lower settings of the seat, no air tires and a washable seat cover.  Kinderfeets are designed for children ages 2 and up and can hold a maximum weight of 70 pounds.

We recently got a wonderful opportunity to work with Kinderfeets on a review.  I never told Caroline she would be getting a new bike so you could imagine the look on her face when the UPS man showed up and we opened the box!

The bike did require a little assembly which my husband was able to do with ease and in very little time.  Caroline helped and oversaw the entire project.  When she first got on the bike she was slightly confused as to why it was leaning to one side or the other not knowing that she actually had to balance it.  After a few times of the bike falling over she quickly got the hang of it.  What I personally love about the bike is how lightweight it is.  Caroline is a petite 2 year old and I have yet to fear for her safety on this bike regarding its weight.  Each time it fell over she easily picked it back up and tried again.  Once she got the hang of it she was zooming all around exclaiming that it was her “dirt bike” and Jaydon would love a ride into town on the back of the seat.  Although that is wishful thinking on her part it is safe to say she is in love with her new bike!

Aside from the ease of use I really like that the seat has a removable cover that can be washed, just how many bike seats do you know of that you can pop a cover off and throw it in the wash?  Chalkboard paint also seems to be all the rage lately so I thought it was cool that Kinderfeets has the option of coming with a chalkboard finish.  This allows children to get creative and truly make their bike their own.  Once I told Caroline she use chalk on it she went to town chalking and erasing some fine art! Kinderfeets retail for $130 which may seem pricy but when you match it up to conventional bicycles with training wheels you are getting much more with higher quality from Kinderfeets in my opinion!
