I admit it. This homeschool mom LOVES LeapFrog products. This company has been part of our lives and our blog for many years. My boys have continued to learn using their amazing products and recently, they have released a new product called, LeapStart Interactive Learning System. This is a really neat system that designed for two different age groups. One system is designed for Preschool & PreKindergarten, and then the one we have been using which is for Kindergarten & 1st Grade.

The cool thing is that while there are two options available, they will both run all the book in the collection which means this product can grow with your child. The preschool just simply has a little different design like a carry handle and a chunkier pen.
What is the Leapstart Interactive Learning Sytem?
The LeapStart Interactive Learning System is designed to help build key skills and challenge your child. They will without a doubt get excited about everything from STEM to social skills, reading comprehension to communication, phonics to problem-solving, and shapes to social skills with replayable activity books bursting with fun on every page!
The stylus of LeapStart Jr. is ergonomically designed for smaller hands, while that of LeapStart Sr. helps older children practice finer pen control. Using the stylus, kids can tap any page to activate audio responses and play activities designed to keep them engaged and coming back for more. Each book in the library is packed with over 30 activities. Games, jokes, and songs come to life, enticing kids to trace numbers, hunt for letters, compose their own music and so much more.
Our Thoughts:
This product is similar in a way to the LeapReaders, with the exception that these are activity books instead of a reading book. They are filled with a variety of educational material that will keep your children learning with every turn of the page. My five-year-old prefers me reading to him, but LOVES activities and facts on a device. He has really enjoyed using this product simply because it’s activities and learning.
While there are a lot of things I enjoy about this product, it does come with some cons for our family.
Cons:
• Once your child opens the book, they click on the level one to begin the activity for that page. Once level one is complete, your child will then have the chance to move on to level 2. There are times where level one seemed a tad easy, but you have no way of bypassing it. This isn’t a bad idea per say, but sometimes little ones will walk away if they aren’t being challenge enough. It would be nice to be able to go onto level 2 without having to complete level 1.
• The system isn’t rechargeable. I really expected it to be rechargable since LeapFrog has been stepping up their game in the past year, but sadly this unit isn’t. You can of course use rechargeable batteries in it, but keep that in mind. It isn’t as easy as plugging in the device for a quick charge.
• The pen is a little too chunky in my opinion for the LeapStart Sr. It would have been nice if it was a little smaller and maybe the cord to it a little longer.
So there you have it. While there are things about this product that our family isn’t over the moon excited about, it doesn’t make it a bad product. These are just some things I wanted to mention since they may be important to other people.
Recommended product?
Would I recommend this product still? Of course! It’s a great product and if you can deal with the cons, then you will not be disappointed at all. The books are all very reasonably priced and they are literally crammed for of learning activities for your little one. They could easily spend an hour and probably not make it through the book.
So if you are looking for a product that has more activities and fact learning, do check this product out. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
