The Color Run Kaleidoscope Tour 2014-Asheville

A couple of months back, my oldest daughter came to me and wanted us to sign up to participate in the Color Run Kaleidoscope tour.  This was the first year that it was coming to Asheville and we had heard such wonderful things about it. With that being said, we signed up and counted down the days.

We left our house at 5am that morning but as most know, when traveling with two littles ones, a simple two hour drive can quickly turn into a three hour drive.  We arrived in the YMCA in Asheville around 8am and there were already a ton of people there.  The first group was just getting ready to take off.  We were shocked by the number of people waiting to run which was around 7,000.

Here we are waiting in line for our turn to run. Look how clean we are and how white our shirts were! This didn’t last long as my seven year old was determined to be colored up A LOT!

As the line moved up we got more and more excited!  We were in line for a ahile but honestly it didn’t seem that long at all.  Organizers let waves of runners go every 10 minutes which wasn’t bad.  We just hung out, danced to the music and enjoyed all the bubbles that were going around our heads!

As we got up closer to the starting point there was a sign that had runners to the right and walkers to the left.  We figured that with it being a 5K that we would attempt to run it…so left it was! Now keep in mind when I say run, I simply mean jog.  Why would anyone want to sprint through such a fun run loaded with tons of color?

And we’re off!!

The minute we started my seven year old was in a full run.  I had to remind him that he needed to pace himself.  He was in a hurry to arrive at the first color station which was BLUE!! We made sure we had him right on the outside and held his little arms up and got colored really well. He was so happy to get covered in color.   I, on the other hand was shocked that I hardly had any on me.  I think it all landed on him, but we made up for it come the pink station.

Aren’t they all cute and colored up?  To my surprise, my little guy just kept right on running.  Even when we suggested that we take a little walk break so it would be easier on him, he just went to a very slow jog.  He literally was our motivation during the entire run.  As you can see from the crowd of people as we come up on purple that there were people walking as well as running and the left side didn’t just stay running. See the huge crowd? See the huge hill?

The purple station took us by complete surprise.  They had actually watered down their color.  Talk about a shock when colored water splashed all over!! However, it was a welcomed splash that helped cool us down in the heat of the morning.

YAY Purple!!

It’s hard to tell just how colored our body was in the pictures but I had to snap this picture of my daughter’s hand.  This was right after we went through the blue .

As we went through all these awesome colors, my seven year old kept up his running pace and I admit that my daughter and I walked a little. Little dude was on a mission to find the YELLOW station.  He says that yellow is his favorite color and he was in a hurry to get to. I’m glad that yellow is his favorite color because in this station we literally were covered in color!!

Yellow was the last color and after that was the finish line.  Little dude was determined to finish strong.  Here he is giving it all he had to finish! Towards the end as we were going downhill he was so funny.  He would sprint to get ahead of us so that he could sit in the grass for a second and then sprint again as we caught up.  I’m not really sure he was actually resting since he was sprinting to get ahead long enough to set for just a couple of seconds.

YAY!! We finished the race and were successful in getting all colored up!!

We were greeted at the finish line by this amazingly clean people.  My three year old wanted no part of the color which surprised me because this kid stays dirty and my husband who is an avid cyclist had no desire to join in on the color run. He stayed very far away from the color since he didn’t want to run errands all colored up.  (yeah we got some strange looks from people through the day)

See my three year old’s pretty white shirt?

See how clean my daughter’s boyfriend was?

We didn’t let them stay that way at all!!  We took them into the after-party for a little color fun!!

Here’s a few after-party photos:

See…little dude isn’t so clean anymore

So the question is…would we do it again?  Without a doubt we would!!
