For the May’s Masterbook Mom’s review we received an awesome product. My seven year old loves learning about our planets and The Universe: From Comets to Constellations was a perfect fit for us.
About this curriculum:
A positive experience of astronomy and the Creator that is hands-on!
Through simple experiments and fact-finding problems, the new Investigate the Possibilities astronomy curriculum bring to light God’s design of this massive and intricate universe. Students will:
- Read about the historical discoveries of great scientists of the past like Kepler, Galileo, and Newton, and how their words impact us today.
- Explore astronomy from the first observations of space, the creation of the telescope, the history of flight and more
- Be encouraged in their faith, reading Scriptures that highlight God’s magnificent hand in creation
What We Thought:
The Mom’s Masterbook review team received the student book, the student journal and the teacher’s guide. This is an great set together but you can use you the student book as a stand alone leaning book as well. I love being able to dig deeper in a lesson and with the help of the teacher’s guide I was able to do that.
I have always been a hands on learning and I have noticed that my seven year old is like that as well. With the inexpensive experiments in this book, we were able to try a couple out during our review process and they didn’t break the bank at all. A lot of the experiments called for things that we already had laying around the house.

The Student Journal is also an optional purchase but in my experience with my little dude, I have noticed that when he writes things to a certain point he remembers them better. Plus, who doesn’t like pulling something from the shelf to refresh memory from time to time. I think this really completes the set and is totally worth the additional expense but as I mentioned, it is totally optional.
All in all I think this is a great collection and one that I plan on using as part of our curriculum in a few years. While we did try a couple of experiments and did a couple of lessons, my little guy is a rising second grader. I look forward to being able to use this with him in a couple of years!
