The Wild Weather Book

Our family recently had the opportunity to review an awesome book, The Wild Weather Book.  It’s bursting with more than 70 ideas for creative outdoor activities in the rain, wind, sleet or snow, here is a book to rekindle the sheer joy of playing in the elements.

The Wild Weather Book

With its hands-on suggestions for outdoor play, The Wild Weather Book belongs in every Scout leader’s library.  It’s also a perfect complement to First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative, the NFL Play 60 campaign for healthy youth, and other efforts to connect children and nature.

Activities this book includes is:

  • Stomp through puddles
  • Create ice lanterns
  • Make mud sculptures
  • Dance in the wind with home-made streamers
  • Take the bath toys for an outdoor adventure
  • make snow slushies
  • Capture wildlife tracks
Being a mom of two young boys you can probably guess that we have done the stomp through puddles, wildlife tracks and mud sculptures so far.  With have had enough to make some of these activities easy.

Project 33

Project 33 was a favorite of the boys.  What you do to play this game is search for the stickiest mud you can find (for us it’s down near the lake at the end of our driveway) and you just simply have fun getting stuck.  Or you can play real Stuck in the Mud: if you are tagged, go and jump in the mud and stay there until your friends release you.

The Wild Weather Book

If you are looking for activities to keep your kids busy no matter the weather, The Wild Weather Book may be just what you are looking for! It’s a practical, hands-on guide to outdoor fun, with each project ranked  by difficulty (one to three raindrops).
