Theodore Boone: The Scandal

I adore John Grisham and have to admit that I have really enjoyed reading his #1 New York Times bestselling series for kids: Theodore Boone. The latest addition to the series, Theodore Boone: The Scandal is a wonderful read that both my nine-year old and I have both enjoyed.Theodore Boone: The Scandal

What can I say? Grisham has done it again with yet another addition to the Theodore Boone series, which is geared towards ages 8-12.  In the latest thrilling case, Theodore Boone: The Scandal, an anonymous tip leads Theodore’s local school board to investigate a suspicious increase in scores at another regional middle school and puts Theo into the middle of a cheating scandal. This is a scandal that he would rather have avoided since he isn’t a fan of the end-of-grade testing and the way it determines what classes they will be put in the following year. Will he be able to choose the right option in time?

More about the series:
This series currently includes six books. In the first five books in the series, Theo helped solve a murder mystery and a kidnapping, was framed for a crime he did not commit, uncovered political corruption in a hot-button environmental case, and recaptured a fugitive.

Theodore Boone is one of today’s most popular children’ book characters. Beloved by kids for its compelling mysteries and by parents and educators for its educational content, the #1 New York Times bestselling series has become a trusted and popular series amount children and gate keepers alike. The Theodore Boone books have been lauded as

“Not only entertinaing” but “an educational introduction to the American legal system”
                                                                                        -Grandparents.com

“Not since Nany Drew has a nosy, crime-obsessed kit been so hard to resist”
                                                                                        -The New York Times

Overall this is a great book for tweens. It had a good plot, with a very clear problem and resolution. I also really appreciate how Grisham doesn’t only entertain, but also touches on issues of interest. In “The Scandal”, we read about how Theodore and even his mother are not fans of the Standardized testing which is a big deal in all grades, with middle school level taking the cake. How this one test determines their future high school classes and can even affect their college. This is a topic that many disagree on and I love how this book brings light on the subject. And what a perfect time to be released.

You can purchase your copy at your local book retailer or online at stores like Amazon.
