Welcome A Cure: Pink Ribbon Mat

It’s expected that over 220,000 women in the US will  be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone. Improvements and funds for breast cancer research are essential in preventing and finding a cure which is why raising money and awareness isn’t just for the month of October.

Recently we had the chance to check out a welcome mat that is sold through Carpet One Floor & Home and it’s an absolutely beautiful and very well made mat. Each mat is made in the USA and proudly marked with a pink ribbon, the international symbol for breast cancer awareness.

Carpet One donates 25% of the purchase price of each Pink Ribbon welcome mat to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  So far the campaign has raised nearly 1 million dollars for a variety of breast cancer research charities!

While one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime, and it still remains as the second leading cause of death among women improvements are being made! With better screening, early detection and increased awareness death rates from breast cancer has been declining since around 1990! Right now there are nearly 3 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.

• Annual Screening mammography beginning at age 40
• Breast self-examination is optional but beneficial.  Women who choose to do breast self-examinations should receive instructions from their health providers
• Clinical breast examination every three years for women in their 20s and 30s, and annually for women ages 40 and older.
