Spring has officially arrived and so has the time for Spring cleaning. Over this past week, I have been making a list of some areas that I want to to start on this coming week and one of the items at the top of my list is our garage doors. Surprisingly, that’s one of the places that can easily be forgotten when it comes time for Spring cleaning.
In the past, that was an area that I was forgetting, so don’t feel bad if you have forgotten about your garage door in the past. Last year about this time, I signed up for a free twice-a-year email garage door lubrication reminder. Just this past week I received my email and immediately placed this on my to do list. It’s never too late to get started, and let’s face it…it’s better to take the time to make sure it’s working correctly, than to have to dish out the money for expensive repairs later on.
For making sure our garage door is where it should be, we always follow the three step program from GarageDoorCare.com. Who can’t make time for three steps, especially when it gives you peace-of-mind.
The three-steps are:
1. Lubricate your garage door twice a year (it’s easier than you think)
2. Sign up for a free twice-a-year email garage door lubrication reminder.
3. Find a trusted, local garage door pro well in advance of a problem.
Be sure to check out this video that shows inspections every homeowner can do, including how to lubricate your garage door.
As I mentioned above, this is a completely free service to homeowners. No charges, no annoying spam emails..nothing. Just a simple reminder, twice a year to remind us know to lubricate our garage doors. Remember, if you do need more extensive garage door repair services or you aren’t comfortable performing basic maintenance tasks, you can find nearby garage door professionals by entering your zip code on the website. This is a great service that I have personally checked out as well.
GarageDoorCare.com also provides information that details other takes that homeowners can perform to ensure that garage doors remine in top operation conditions. It also touches on 10 things every homeowner should know about garage door safety and a special page devoted to children and garage door safety, which is so very important!
So if you have a minute, I encourage you to go checkout GarageDoorCare.com and sign up for the twice a year reminder. It’s quick, simple and will help keep your garage door in tip-top shape!

I learned that I should have a pro check my door annually and make sure nothing is blocking the rollers.
Signed up for the Garage Door Care program. My favorite maintenance tip is “Semi-annual lubrication. Apply a small amount of spray lubricant to the door’s hinges, rollers and tracks.”
You’re garage doors need to be properly adjusted and maintained just like your heating and air conditioning.
Annual maintenance by a trained service technician is recommended.
My favorite maintenance tip is the Monthly reversing mechanism test to make sur ethe door reverses itself back open if it senses it will hit something.

My favorite tip is this: “Monthly force setting test (if your door is equipped with an automatic opener system). With the door fully open, push your garage door opener’s transmitter or wall button to close the door. As the door is closing, hold up the bottom of the door with your hands outstretched and stiff. If the door does not easily reverse and continues to close, pull your hands away immediately. The closing force is excessive and the door should be serviced by a trained service technician.”
