About the Author
When Dav Pilkey was a kid, he suffered from ADHD, dyslexia, and behavioral problems. Dav was so disruptive in class that his teachers made him sit out in the hall every day. Luckily, Dav loved to draw and make up stories, so he spent his time in the hallway creating his own original comic books.

In the second grade, Dav Pilkey created a comic book about a superhero named Captain Underpants. His teacher ripped it up and told him he couldn’t spend the rest of his life making silly books.
Fortunately, Dav was not a very good listener.

What We Thought:
If you have the time, I encourage you to watch the above video, Reading Gives You Superpowers. I agree with Dav that it’s so important to let them read what they find enjoyable. Our eight-year old is just now reaching the point where he is reading more and more books himself and with each book I purchase, my first question is…”How do you like it?” “Does it interest you?” Everyone is different and I know just because I LOVED a book when I was younger or even now, it may or may not be a great fit for him.
With all the choices, I have to say that Captain Underpants is HUGE in our house. Even my four-year old that’s currently learning to read, takes the books on bike rides with him to simply look at the pictures!
