Country Inn & Suites First Official Day

Yesterday was a fun day with the kids and hubby! Let me add that it started out with the free breakfast that they offer here at the Country Inn and Suites. The entire time I was posting about our previous day, I was getting extremely hungry smelling the wonderful food. We are on the first floor, so the smell just made its way into our room.

When we walked through the door to the breakfast area, I was shocked. I honestly didn’t think that many people were staying here. Guess free breakfast brings everyone out. I know it did us! HA! I was a little disappointed because I didn’t get to take a picture of all the wonderful offerings, but it was just so crowded. There was a line, but it was so worth it. We had such a wonderful variety to pick from.

Here are a few things, and this is going off memory that we had to pick from:

  • Gravy
  • Biscuits
  • Eggs
  • Sausage
  • Blueberry and Chocolate Mini Muffins (very addictive)
  • Cereal
  • Bagels
  • Toast
  • Waffles
  • Yogurt
  • Fruit

Now remember, I said that this was by memory and everything was fantastic! I had the Eggs, Sausage, Gravy, and Biscuits and was very satisfied by them. Ryan decided he was going to wait in line for the Waffle Maker so that he could make a waffle. Ofcourse I had to take a taste, since i was too lazy to wait in line for my own and it was delicious as well! The kids had a variety of items, but Davis’ favorite was his eggs. He is a big egg eater and Angelica really seemed to enjoy the muffins.

After we finished getting our tummies stuffed and I mean stuffed, we came back to the room to get ready to head out for the day. Now the big question was, where were we going to head out too. It took us awhile to decide, so yesterday we decided to do a laid back day and start with our itinerary today (Sunday).

All we have heard this entire trip is that Davis wanted to go to the “great big sand box” this is what he calls the beach. So we decided yesterday, to take the kids down to Virginia Beach and let them experience that area. It took us about 45 minutes to an hour to get there, but Davis was excited when we arrived. I think the highlight of his driving trip was being able to go through the tunnel under the water. He thought that was the greatest thing ever. On the other hand, Angelica just kept asking what happens if there were to be a leak in the tunnel.

I had never been to Virginia Beach and it really is a beautiful beach. More crowded than what we are used to, but beautiful. They were having a live performance on the beach, so it was nice to hear the music while we were there and then we let the kids play in the ocean. Well, let me rephrase that. We took them down, spread out the tuffo and watched Angelica not move on the blanket because she was “hot”. I honesty believe that this is a typical girl thing. Our oldest daughter has always been that way too. Davis starts running around and playing. We go to get into the water and it is so cold. That caught me off guard with it being August, and I believe it caught Davis a little off guard too. Hubby and I took turns chasing him around and then a wave came up and got him wet. Usually he could care less, but because the water was cool he immediately came to me crying that he needed to take his swim trunks off and put on new ones. He wasn’t happy with the cold touching him. Finally I convinced him that he would live and we took him to the play area on the beach. Now this, I loved! He played with all the other little kids there for almost an hour. Climbing, sliding and just running around.

We left the Virginia Beach around 1:00pm and decided to spend the day shopping. We made a stop by Bass Pro Shops. Ok, it wasn’t just a stop. I honestly thought my husband was going to have us camp out in there. They were having a huge sale and since hunting season was coming up, he was need to stock up on a few things. Angelica shopped with hubby and Davis and I went back and forth between them and other items as he got bored. He would hang out on the 4-wheelers and boats all day, but I don’t like doing that. So we strolled over to the shoes and he found himself and adorable pair of camo crocs. Generally, that isn’t my color of choice, but once he tried them on, he refused to take them back off. He has always been a Croc kinda kid, but we have had a difficult time finding his size lately.

So after we finally left there, Davis was ready to come back to the room and go swim, but we couldn’t do that. We did come back into Williamsburg and took a stop at the Prime Outlet Mall just down the street from our room. They have a Columbia Outlet there and I love shopping at those. We went to a few other stores trying to find Angelica the perfect backpack for when school starts back and then went to grab a bite to eat.

I wish that we would had came back to the room first so that I could ask them at the desk to refer us to a great locally owned restaurant. I always love eating in local places while on vacation, but we didn’t. The kids were starving and Angelica yelled TGIFridays. So that was where our meal was last night. It isn’t a bad place, but everyone has been there, so I can’t tell you about the wonderful and interesting food selection that they had.

We arrived back at the room around 8PM and were greeted with a friendly smile and a warm welcome from the lady that was behind the counter. She was so inviting and guess what else? She had a huge variety of cookies out. There wasn’t just one kind to pick from!! Ok, sounds crazy, but the sugar cookie that Davis had the day before was wonderful and last night we sampled a chocolate chip. He was so moist and gooey (when popped in the microwave). The only thing that could make this cookies taste any better would be a little ice cream and choc. sauce. These cookies can be addictive though. They need to put a caution sign on the cookies letting you know before you ever take that first bite!

Let me also say, that we came back into our room and it was super clean. They had replaced our towels with clean towels, made our beds and even gave us extra shampoo and conditioner. So it was nice to walk back in to a tidy room!

Ok, so I have rambled enough to today and I apologize for no picture. I forgot my camera and vado in the car last night. I didn’t realize it until I started writing this post. But I will try to have pictures to add of our trip later. I may not be able to update everyone tomorrow morning. We are going to head out early I believe and take the kids down the the coast of NC aways and visit the Wright Brothers Memorial in Kitty Hawk. I love the Outerbanks but we haven’t been since the girls were around 6 and 9 years of age and well they are now 14 and soon to be 17. So it has been awhile!

Have a wonderful Sunday!!
