LeapFrog Epic™ Android Based Kids Tablet

The holidays are around the corner and Leapfrog has you covered when it comes to tablets. They have several different tablets available depending on what you’re looking to, but a personal favorite of ours is the Leapfrog Epic. Every year you hear me say how Leapfrog gets better and better when it comes to tablets, and in my opinion..Leapfrog hit a home run when they created the Epic!epic

The Epic is the first Android-based tablet that Leapfrog has ever released and it does also come with an attached stylus. I love the attached stylus, it’s amazing how much time it saves me. If it weren’t attached, I know for a fact that most of my day would be searching the house like a mad woman trying to find it.

The Epic brings to the table a shatter-proof screen, protective bumper, expandable memory (sd card slot), and so much more! I’m totally not joking when I say this is the best one they have made. This little gem also will connect to the Amazon App Store which adds more variety when it comes to game play or Netflix watching.

Here’s what we have to say about the Leapfrog Epic:

I also love the ease when it comes to charging. I can’t count how many times we have searched the house for the specific charger for the Leapfrogs in the past. Not sure how the boys misplace them since it’s charged daily, but they do. With the new Leapfrog Epic though, I can use our Kindle charger or any USB cable. This is also nice when it comes to travel. This way I don’t have to have pack 100 different chargers for all the devices that seem to hit the road with us.

The Epic also comes loaded with 20+ apps which includes games, ebooks, utilities and more. It also offers wi-fi and I love that I don’t have to hook it up to my computer to pull games in from Leapfrog. I can purchase, auto download and boom..I’m done. Easy and super fast! It sure beats having to hook it to my computer to download games and updates like with the past Leapfrogs.

I do want to say that Wi-Fi connection , parent account and device set-up required to access all included content, however you don’t have to stay connected to wi-fi for all the games. And as I mentioned earlier, you can pull in the Amazon App Store on your Leapfrog Epic. Here’s how to do that:

My boys love this device and as someone who has been a Leapfrog fan for many years, this one is my favorites too.  That only downside is if you have purchased the cartridge games in the past, the epic won’t run them.  This is the first Leapfrog tablet that doesn’t take the cartridges. We started purchasing online and downloading with our Ultra a couple years ago, so it’s not too big of a deal for us. The boys just pull their ultras out when they want to play a cartridge game that we haven’t previously purchased digitally.  It would be nice if you could sync with past leapfrog devices for game play, but it doesn’t do that.  If you do have two epics, then they sync for Pet Chat and game playing.  That’s my boys favorite feature when it comes to Ultra, but we have two of those.  In the end, I may be purchasing another Epic.

The Leapfrog Epic has a SRP for $139.99.  Still not sure which Leapfrog tablet is best for you, check out my comparison here. Basically you can’t go wrong with any of them.  My boys love them all!

  1. I like the microSD slot option. Thanks for sharing the apps, games and utilities that come with the Leapfrog Epic. It looks like a nice tablet for kids, a good Xmas gift for them indeed.

    1. You’re very welcome. I hope the information was helpful, and I agree. The SD slot option is so nice. My kids take hundreds of pictures and videos with their LeapPads and doing that on top of the games..they quickly run out of memory. It’s nice being able to add more.
